Abstract
This experimental study examined how changes in supra-aortic vessel patency can influence the distribution of cerebral emboli. Researchers introduced clot analogues into an in vitro vascular circulation system and tracked where emboli traveled and lodged under several different vascular conditions.
The findings demonstrated that embolus distribution changed significantly depending on vessel patency, with carotid occlusion influencing the likelihood of emboli crossing between cerebral hemispheres. Physiological pulsatile flow within the experimental system was generated using a United Biologics FlowTek 125 pump.
