FlowTek 125:
Built to Evolve

The story behind the refinement, return to in-house manufacturing, and next chapter of United Biologics’ flagship pulsatile flow pump.

Products that stay useful over time rarely remain completely unchanged.

They are tested in real environments. Customers discover new ways to use them. Strengths become clearer. Weak points surface. And the manufacturer has a choice: protect the original design—or keep learning from what happens after the product leaves the building.

For United Biologics, the evolution of the FlowTek 125 pulsatile flow pump has reinforced the importance of something fundamental: staying close to the product, the people building it, and the customers using it.

Today’s FlowTek 125 is the result of that process.

A Product That Earned Its Place

After United Biologics brought the FlowTek 125 design into its portfolio, customer adoption grew as teams found value in its combination of adjustable flow, pulsatile operation, compact size, and flexible system configuration.

Over time, the pump became an important part of the United Biologics product lineup and a platform used across a wide range of vascular simulation environments.

That versatility remains central to the FlowTek 125 today. The platform can support applications ranging from smaller vascular models to full-body systems, operate in open- or closed-loop configurations, and transition between technical development environments and professional demonstrations.

But increased adoption also created another challenge: how to continue scaling production while maintaining close control over the product itself.

When Growth Created a New Challenge

As the popularity of the FlowTek 125 grew, increasing demand began to extend production lead times.

To help scale production and better serve customers, United Biologics partnered with an offsite assembly firm. While the decision was intended to improve availability, the resulting production did not consistently maintain the quality standards expected for the FlowTek 125.

When those issues became clear, United Biologics changed course—bringing the product back under direct oversight and addressing the areas that needed improvement.

The experience reinforced an important principle: growth should never come at the expense of product quality or accountability.

Bringing the FlowTek 125 Back In-House

The next step was to bring manufacturing of the FlowTek 125 back in-house, placing the platform once again under direct United Biologics oversight.

Along with that transition came a series of refinements to the current-generation pump, including an updated motor and pump, redesigned circuit board, strengthened enclosure, and more sensitive controls for pulse and flow adjustment. The current design also retains the compact footprint, integrated reservoir, quick-connect options, and flexible system architecture that helped establish the FlowTek platform in the first place.

Bringing manufacturing inside United Biologics does more than change where the product is assembled.

It places engineering intent, manufacturing oversight, product support, and future refinement closer together.

That matters when a product is expected to work across very different environments—from an R&D bench to a training system to a customer-facing demonstration.

Listening to the People Using It

The latest chapter of the FlowTek 125 was not shaped by engineering decisions alone.

United Biologics’ relaunch materials identify direct feedback from users and partners as an important part of the refinement process. That means looking beyond whether a product simply operates and paying attention to how it is actually configured, adjusted, transported, demonstrated, and used over time.

Those practical details matter.

A control interface that is easier to read matters when adjustments are being made repeatedly.

A compact footprint matters when bench space is limited.

Flexible tubing and connection options matter when systems change between projects.

And direct access to the people responsible for a product matters when users identify opportunities to make it better.

The goal is not change for the sake of change. It is measured refinement informed by real-world use.

More Than a Relaunch

The FlowTek 125 story is ultimately about more than bringing a product back into production.

It reflects the approach United Biologics intends to carry forward: maintain ownership of the design, stay connected to manufacturing, listen closely to the people using the technology, and make improvements deliberately.

The current FlowTek 125 is therefore both a continuation and a reset.

It builds on the versatility that made the platform valuable in the first place, while incorporating lessons learned through years of production and real-world use. And by bringing manufacturing directly back under United Biologics’ oversight, the company is better positioned to support the product and continue refining it as user needs evolve.

That is what built to evolve means here.

Not a finished product frozen in time.

A platform that United Biologics intends to keep listening to, learning from, and improving.
