Abstract
Mechanical thrombectomy outcomes can be strongly affected by interactions between the stent retriever, clot, and vessel wall. This study explored how variations in friction forces and retrieval speed influence virtual mechanical thrombectomy simulations.
The results demonstrated the importance of accurately representing friction within computational models, with changes in friction and retrieval speed affecting stent compression, clot movement, fragmentation, and overall thrombectomy outcomes. A United Biologics silicone ICA/MCA model was used in the benchtop experimental system that helped validate stent behavior within the in silico simulations.
